Nathaniel Van Kirk, PhD

OCD Institute, McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School
Administrative Director of Research
Belmont, MA
Nathaniel Van Kirk is a clinical research fellow at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School, working in the Office of Clinical Assessment and Research at the OCD Institute. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from Virginia Tech, completing clinical externships at the Houston OCD Program and Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center and his clinical internship at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Nathaniel's clinical/research focus is on the conceptualization and treatment of severe/treatment-refractory OCD; specifically, the impact of motivation and PTSD/trauma. Through the integration of personal experience overcoming OCD, clinical experience, and empirical evidence, Nathaniel's research strives to develop innovative methods to assess/conceptualize prognostic factors associated with OCD, and bridge the gap between therapists/researchers and those with OCD. To this end he co-founded the Therapists and Trainees with OCD Special Interest Group and runs a local support group for individuals with OCD working in mental health.
